Welcome
Winners of the "Most Creative Door" for the What Pet Should I Get contest!
Dear Families,
We are moving into the last full month of school! This time of year always flies by and is filled with a busy schedule of academics and activities. We are beginning our final unit in Readers Workshop "Fairy tales, Folktales, Fables and Fantasy". Scholars will be working on fiction text while analyzing characters and the main events in a story. They will be able to acknowledge the difference in the point of view of characters and determine characteristics of "good vs evil". We will begin our end of the year reading assessments this month so please, make sure your child is reading at home every night to keep up that brain power!
In math we are finishing the year with measurements, geometry and the foundation of multiplication. In our room we have set the base for Talk Frame, student to student discourse and student led activities. This will be an important part of grades 3-5. We will also be assessing scholars with the end of the year math benchmark assessment this month. Remember, information for Fastt Math is located on the "Math Workshop" section of this website.
We also have a great deal of exciting activities happening this month! We still have two field trips:
May 3rd- West Hartford Science Museum
May 13th- Hillstead Museum
We also have field day May 27th, parents are more than welcome to join us that day! We would love to have you!
On May 19th, students will be meeting my former high school music teacher, Dr. Younse from Simsbury High School. His junior theater class will be at Verplanck performing a set of short plays based off of popular books read in the classroom. The junior class has produced, written, directed and will perform their show for us and answer questions about theater, we look forward to their visit!
The last day of school is scheduled for Monday, June 13th. Please remember that my door is always open and I am happy to meet with any families. I look forward to seeing you all for Field Day!
Best,
Mrs. Patterson
